Liquor Store Holiday Promotion Ideas (Year-Round)

Liquor Store Holiday Promotion Ideas

Consumers purchase all types of products during the holidays. Therefore, holidays are the perfect opportunity to offer a special promotion. Below are a few of the most common holidays that people celebrate. They are in order of the year, starting with Valentine’s Day. New Years is included in the Holiday Season towards the end. If you have any other great holiday promotion ideas, comment below!

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to advertise Wine and Champagne specials. Sell grocery items? Make a basket with some wine and chocolate as a special.

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras is celebrated everywhere – not just New Orleans! The most common drink to have on Mardi Gras is the Hurricane. Offer this recipe near the Rum items:

1oz Dark Rum
1oz Light Rum
1 tbsp Passion Fruit Flavored Syrup
2 tbsp Lime Juice
1 cup Ice

Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake until chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass.

St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect time to think green! Offer discounts on green colored liquor such as Midori, sour apple Schnapps, pre-made margaritas, etc. You could also include green bottles such as Jameson, Jager, and more.

Cinco De Mayo

Also known as “Cinco De Drinko” from college students. This holiday is perfect to advertise Tequila. Provide an amazing Margarita recipe to them and consider the product sold.

According to Google, this recipe is the perfect Margarita:

1.5oz Tequila
1oz Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
.5oz Cointreau

Add ingredients and ice into a cocktail shaker and shake until chilled. Salt rim of a margarita glass and pour the drink into the glass.

Memorial Weekend

Memorial weekend is the first 3 day weekend after school ends and before summer officially begins. Typically, it is also the first boating/lake weekend for most. During this time, offer specials on beer, pre-made drinks, and anything easy they can take with them – especially if it’s not glass!

Independence Day

4th of July is the perfect time to BBQ, go to the lake, and more. During this time, a lot of beer is sold, red-white-&-blue drinks are made, and more. To keep with the color theme, you can offer red, white, and blue specials or even provide a recipe to make a RWB drink!

Thanks to Google, this layered, frozen, Red, White, and Blue(berry) Margarita from “Gimme Some Oven” looks super easy and delicious!

Strawberry Margarita
2 cups Frozen Strawberries
1/2 cup of Tequila
1/4 cup of Fresh Lime Juice
1/4 cup of Agave Nectar or Honey

Coconut Margarita
1/2 cup Full-Fat Coconut Milk
1/2 cup Silver Tequila
1/4 cup Fresh Lime Juice
1/4 cup Agave Nectar or Honey
*If you prefer a regular margarita, omit coconut milk and add a generous splash of orange liqueur such as Triple Sec.

Blueberry Margarita
1 cup Frozen Blueberries
1/2 cup Tequila
1/4 cup Fresh Lime Juice
1/4 cup Agave Nectar or Honey

*extra ice as needed on all 3

To make, add all 5 ingredients to the blender and then pulse until completely smooth. If too thin, add more ice. You want the mix to be a thick slush consistency. Repeat for all 3 flavors. Tip: Put each flavor as it is made into the freezer to prevent melting.

Salt or sugar a rim of a glass. Next, add your first desired layer, then second, then third. Scoop and layer slowly to see the layers. Note: after 5-10 minutes they will start to melt and seep together.

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend is the last 3 day weekend before school starts and before summer officially ends. Typically, it is also the last boating/lake weekend for most. During this time, offer specials on beer, pre-made drinks, and anything easy they can take with them – especially if it’s not glass!

Halloween

Halloween is the perfect time for spooky drinks! It is also a time college students tend to make an alcoholic punch for their Halloween parties. Offer a discount on items you know sell great in your area or offer a Spooky Punch recipe with on-sale ingredients.

Spooky Spiked Punch is a simple 3 ingredient recipe:
Orange Soda
Sparkling Wine
Vanilla Ice Cream

Mix one part soda with one part sparkling wine. Add a scoop of ice cream to wine glass and fill with the soda/wine mixture.

Holiday Season

The holiday season is one, if not, the biggest season for beer, wine, and liquor stores. There are multiple holidays and even more holiday parties to attend.

During November, offering a special on wine or Baileys is a perfect match.

During December, offering specials on Burgundys, Whiskey, Scotch, and Champagne is a great match as well. Offering the classic holiday liquors with the perfect New Years drink is a match made perfect.

Conclusion

Keep your customers in mind during the holiday. Think of items that sell really well during certain times of the year. Maybe there is a seasonal item that sells out every year, maybe an item doesn’t sell very well so you want to sell out of it.

This blog post is simply to spark ideas. You don’t even have to offer any promotions – just advertising items is a great way to spark sales. Offering recipes suggests to people to try something they never would have purchased or planned on purchasing.
