You have several options for age verification within mPower Liquor POS System, including utilizing a 2D scanner for use with driver’s licenses. The best fit for your beer, wine, or liquor store depends on your location, customers, and preferences. Liquor store age verification can be provided in different ways within mPower point of sale software. The sections below go through the options that can be selected and how they will effect age verification on the point of sale software.

In the Point of Sale Preferences screen, you can see your age verification options.

Type a birth date before each transaction

Select “Verify” to allow your cashier to type in a birth date before each transaction. Because the birth date is entered using a keyboard or touchscreen monitor, this doesn’t require a 2D scanner.

Only ask for ID if item scanned is from a certain category

If you choose “Merch level”, mPower point of sale software will only ask for a birth date if an item from a certain department is scanned, such as Beer, Wine, or Liquor.

Furthermore, when you select “Merch level” you will need to assign a “Minimum Age” to the department in the back office under your merchandising hierarchy.

Utilize a 2D scanner

Also, selecting the “Scan” checkbox will allow your cashiers to scan drivers licenses with a 2D scanner. Make sure you utilize a scanner with which mPower POS is already integrated. If you want to check ID’s before the first item is scanned, un-check the “Merch Level” option.

Add customers from the ID scan

If you have customer, and government permission, you can select the “Add Customer” box which will give you the option to create a new customer when you scan the license.

Scan by default / require manual entry if needed
